About the university

Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) traces its roots to the Eastern Institute founded in 1899 and today teaches roughly 41,000 students. Since 2013 it has operated a single modern campus on Russky Island, Vladivostok, built for the 2012 APEC summit. Its School of Medicine and Life Sciences (founded 2011 as the School of Biomedicine) has run a fully English-medium 6-year General Medicine program since 2016, with around 600 students enrolled across the program. FEFU is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and appears in the QS World University Rankings.

Recognition in India

No “NMC-approved list” exists — recognition is criteria-based.

criteria-based (FMGL 2021) — confirmed per university, never a guarantee. To practise in India you must also clear the FMGE (or NExT once active) and complete a 12-month CRMI internship.

NEET-qualified (for admissions on/after May 2018 the NEET result itself is deemed the Eligibility Certificate — Gazette 01.03.2018, per the NBEMS FMGE bulletin); program must meet FMGL 2021 (54-mo, English, same-institution internship).

A listing in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) is a directory entry only — by itself it is not recognition, accreditation, or endorsement by the NMC or WDOMS. It is one of the FMGL-2021 criteria, not a guarantee.

The city

The city, for an Indian student

Vladivostok (population 603,519, 2021 census) is Russia's main Pacific port and the terminus of the Trans-Siberian Railway, about 45 km from the Chinese border and 134 km from North Korea — making it Russia's gateway to Asia. The campus island is reached via the Russky Bridge, the world's longest cable-stayed bridge. Climate honesty: it is monsoon-influenced and cold for its latitude — January averages −11.9°C with severe winters, while August averages around +20°C and is warm and humid. Indian students should pack for genuinely cold winters.

Outcomes

Graduate outcomes

FEFU's English-medium General Medicine program became popular with Indian students immediately on launch: 38 Indian students enrolled in 2016, and FEFU reported tripling Indian enrollment with 113 freshmen in 2017, when 203 Indian students were studying at FEFU overall (FEFU news, 2017). The program now teaches about 600 students from 17 countries, who make up half of all medical-program students. WDOMS listing plus ECFMG accreditation (2020) makes graduates eligible for the USMLE. No FMGE pass-rate or current Indian-enrollment figures are officially published.
