About the university
Kursk State Medical University (KSMU) is a federal state medical university in Kursk, western Russia, established in 1935 under the Ministry of Health and granted university status in 1994. Its first international students — from Syria and India — arrived in 1992, and from 1994 KSMU taught General Medicine and Pharmacy in English; Wikipedia describes it as the first Russian university to offer a full medical training programme in English. No “NMC-approved list” exists — recognition is criteria-based.
criteria-based (FMGL 2021) — confirmed per university, never a guarantee. To practise in India you must also clear the FMGE (or NExT once active) and complete a 12-month CRMI internship.
NEET-qualified (for admissions on/after May 2018 the NEET result itself is deemed the Eligibility Certificate — Gazette 01.03.2018, per the NBEMS FMGE bulletin); program must meet FMGL 2021 (54-mo, English, same-institution internship).
A listing in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) is a directory entry only — by itself it is not recognition, accreditation, or endorsement by the NMC or WDOMS. It is one of the FMGL-2021 criteria, not a guarantee.

Hostel & accommodation
KSMU states that accommodation is provided to all its students and offers 'a variety of University accommodation in Kursk', located within walking distance of the main campus and covered by professional security. Many students alternatively rent private apartments in the city. The official English site does not publish hostel capacity figures or room charges, and the Russian-language site (where fee documents normally sit) was unreachable at verification time — hostel cost is listed under gaps.

Kursk State Medical University — frequently asked
What does MBBS at Kursk State Medical University cost?
Tuition is indicatively USD 6280 per year (plan in the billing currency — the rupee figure moves with the exchange rate). Add living costs and one-time expenses for the real all-in figure; our cost calculator itemises all three for this university. Indicative until verified against the university’s official fee page.
Is Kursk State Medical University recognised for practising in India?
There is no "NMC-approved university" list — recognition is criteria-based under FMGL 2021. Confirm this specific programme is at least 54 months, fully English-medium, with the 12-month internship at the same institution, and WDOMS-listed, before enrolling. After graduating you must also clear the FMGE (or NExT once active) and complete a 12-month CRMI internship in India.
How long is the MBBS programme at Kursk State Medical University?
72 months (6 years), taught in English. For India-return, the FMGL-2021 minimum is 54 months excluding internship — always confirm the exact structure in writing from the university.
Is Kursk State Medical University listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS)?
Yes. A WDOMS search returns one record: Kursk State Medical University, Kursk, Russian Federation — currently operational, degree 'Physician (General Medicine)', instruction in Russian and English (verified June 2026 at search.wdoms.org).
Is the MBBS (General Medicine) course at KSMU really taught in English?
KSMU's official English site lists a 6-year English-medium Medical Degree, and its International Medical Institute states English-medium teaching of General Medicine began in 1994. The official site does not publish a year-wise English/Russian breakdown; students also learn Russian during their studies. Confirm the current language structure with the university before applying.
How long have Indian students been going to KSMU?
Per the university's official history, its first international students — from Syria and India — arrived in 1992, and an Indian Students Association is listed among campus student associations today. India was among 17 countries in KSMU's 53rd international graduation cohort.
Does KSMU have a QS or THE world ranking?
No. KSMU, a medical-only university, is not listed in the QS World University Rankings or THE World University Rankings (THE's profile page is suspended with no rank shown). Its last QS appearance was the discontinued regional EECA ranking (196 in 2022). For Indian students, the WDOMS listing and NMC FMGL 2021 criteria matter more than world rankings.
