About the university
Orenburg State Medical University (OrSMU) is a Russian state medical university founded in August 1944 and run by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation; it gained university status in 1994. It trains doctors across six departments — General Medicine, Pediatrics, Dental, Preventive Care, Pharmaceutical and Clinical Psychology — with General Medicine offered as a 6-year full-time program. The university is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (FAIMER ID F0001553). OrSMU's official English site lists three student hostels, opened in 1961, 1964 and 1981. They offer rooms for events, sports areas, household rooms, personal-hygiene rooms, libraries, internet and cloak-rooms, and the university emphasises student self-governance and social life in the hostels. Capacity figures and accommodation costs are not published on the official English pages, so we do not quote them.

The city, for an Indian student
Orenburg (about 536,500 people, 2025 estimate) sits on the Ural River roughly 1,480 km southeast of Moscow. The Ural here forms the conventional Europe–Asia boundary, and a pedestrian bridge across it symbolically links the two continents — a signature city landmark. Orenburg is a major railway hub with its own airport (~25 km from the city). Climate honesty: the continental climate brings hot summers but long, very cold winters — the record low is −43.2°C — so Indian students should budget for serious winter clothing.

Graduate outcomes
In May 2026 OrSMU's rector, Igor Miroshnichenko, said about 1,800 Indian students study at the university and highlighted English-language programs and faculty who teach directly in English; in 2016 the figure was 439, indicating strong growth. OrSMU leadership took part in the Second Russian-Indian Educational Summit in New Delhi, per university news. Indian news agency ANI reported (Sept 2021) that OrSMU students completed an observership at Max Hospital, India. Per WDOMS, graduates from 1953 onward are eligible for ECFMG Certification. No officially published FMGE/NEXT pass-rate data was found.
